I was inspired to recreate this river and interchange while I was studying in Philadelphia.
I was planning to turn it into a short animated film (you can see a character in a little boat on the water), but I was too busy with work and classes so I focused on creating the environment.
I stitched together satellite photos to create this collage as a guide. I also took lots of reference pictures from the ground every time I passed the bridges on bike rides to Wissahickon.
These half-finished scenes have an interesting look.

I love the look of these illumination calculations.
I only had a laptop from 2014 at college so I had to keep the detail low. I liked this limitation and found this whole project very relaxing to work on.
Kind of videogame-y.
